Beyonce Premieres ‘Hold Up’ Video on Her 35th Birthday
Beyonce is celebrating her 35th birthday today (Sept. 4) and she decided to gift the Beyhive (aka her fans) with the premiere of her video “Hold Up” on YouTube.
The clip is actually a part of her Emmy-nominated visual presentation of Lemonade. The clip also recently won Best Female Video at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Plus, she slayed the ceremony with a flawless 16-minute performance of the LP's standout tracks.
The “Hold Up” video, which was directed by Beyonce and Kahlil Joseph, is visually stunning as Queen Bey is walking down the street in slow motion wielding a baseball bat that she has affectionately called “Hot Sauce.” The clip is also features buildings erupting in fire as onlookers stop and witness Beyonce's destruction of cars, windows and video cameras.
On a side note, Beyonce has been accused of stealing the imagery from Pipilotti Rist's 1997 “Ever Is Over All” video for her own visual.
Meanwhile, the Beyhive have went on a social media campaign to salute their queen a happy birthday. The hashtag #HappyBirthdayBeyonce became a global trending topic and even gold medal-winning U.S. gymnast Simone Biles demanded that September 4th be a "worldwide holiday."
Finally, Beyonce's mother Tina Lawson posted a sweet birthday wish to her superstar daughter on her Instagram page. In the photo, Tina is wearing Happy Birthday glasses with the caption, "A beautiful early celebration of my baby's 35th birthday given by one of the most amazing people ever in life."
