Post-COVID Economy Is Closing Another Downtown Troy Coffee Shop
New York’s Capital Region has seen a huge number of restaurant closings in 2022. Post-pandemic business has put a strain on many eateries, not to mention the economic problems of inflation and the supply chain. Whether it’s the stress of running on smaller staff or the financial burden, many have chosen to hang up the apron and turn off the lights.
Only days ago, popular Downtown Troy coffee shop The Daily Grind announced it will close its doors for good after 38 years of business. Now another Troy coffee shop has put out a Facebook post saying that it will be closing by the end of the month, and fans are heartbroken.
Which Troy Coffee Shop Is Closing Down?
Spill’n the Beans Coffeehouse and Bistro will stop serving as of October 31. The café has been on 3rd Street for 19 years, but the owners say a labor shortage and pandemic-tied food costs were just too much.
The owners also expressed frustrations about a disagreement with their landlord. The coffee shop had been operating all summer with a faulty air conditioning unit, but Spill’n and their lessor couldn’t agree on a proper solution that worked for both parties.
Not Goodbye
The owners say Spill’n the Beans will still exist in a smaller capacity. They plan to finish the Troy Riverfront Farmer’s Market season through the end of the month and then return in the Spring.
Spill’n’s owners say that if you have a gift card, make sure to use it before the 31st. Check their social media accounts before going, though; they’ll run on limited hours with a modified menu until close.
