Alessia Cara Debuts ‘Four Pink Walls’ EP
Take a bit of Amy Winehouse, mix in a dash of Alicia Keys and add some Jewel flavor and you have Alessia Cara, a Canadian-bred singer who just released her debut EP, Four Pink Walls, ahead of schedule.
The 19-year-old hit Bowery Ballroom in New York City Wednesday night (Aug. 26) to perform songs off the project, which features her anti-party anthem "Here," a drum-heavy ballad with some Portishead mixed in. "Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this / An anti-social pessimist, but usually I don't mess with this," she belts out. Clearly, Alessia has better things to do, like make more music that sounds wise beyond her years.
"Seventeen," an ode to freezing time, the tender sounds of "Four Pink Walls" and a cover of Drake's summer banger "Hotline Bling" were also part of her 45-minute set, which was less about bells and whistles and more about showcasing her teenage optimism for the packed room.
The EP is a promising start of what's to come from Alessia. Her forthcoming album, Know It All, out this fall via Def Jam, features tracks co-written and co-produced by singer Sebastian Kole in addition to Pop & Oak and Malay adding their production savvy to the effort.
If you're in search of some musical nourishment for the soul, look no further than Alessia Cara.
