Meek Mill and Wale Preview New Music During MMG Weekend 2016

When Rick Ross founded Maybach Music Group in 2009, right after the release of his third studio album, Deeper Than Rap, it was an ushering in of a new superpower in hip-hop.

Always with an eye for talent, Ross built himself a solid team under the Maybach Music Group umbrella. Meek MillWale. GunplayStalley, Omarion, Rockie Fresh, Fat Trel, Tracy T and Yowda make up the nucleus of MMG. Over the last five years, Ross and his team have released three volumes of their Self Made LP series. Now the MMG regime is currently working on Vol. 4, which will be executively produced by Wale. Both he and Meek are also scheduled to release their own projects sometime this year. The D.C. rhymer is in the process of dropping his fifth studio album, Shine, while Meek, fresh off of house arrest, is preparing to drop the fourth installment of his Dreamchaser series.

To increase the excitement of the Self Made Vol. 4, MMG held a private listening party during Fourth of July weekend. Inside DJ Drama’s Means Street Studios in Atlanta, journalists, rappers, executives, MMG affiliates, DJs and tastemakers were privy to the music being played while blunts were rolled, Luc Belaire Rare Rose was flowing and plenty of Wingstop was served.

Wale invited everyone to one of the rooms inside Mean Street to voice his opinion about how he’s undervalued. This isn’t a new narrative from the former XXL Freshman, however, his confidence—plus the sick University of Miami Willis McGahee jersey—wasn’t off-putting. He wants respect and it’s something that he deserves. “As far as all that talk about who got the best music out that’s me, period,” he said during the listening.

Even after supplying fans with a pretty solid mixtape, Summer on Sunset, last month, the new music he played from Shine sounds better. The track that will most likely be his next single is called “Scarface, Rozay, Gotti,” which he previewed late last year. The song, clearly a fan favorite as he was asked to replay it throughout the night, has a crazy bounce to it and Wale is rapping his ass off. The other new music he played appeared to have tracks featuring Travi$ Scott and Trey Songz.

When Meek Mill arrived‚ the place turned into a frenzy. After bouncing from room to room, the Philadelphia native made camp in one of the studios and played all unreleased music for almost 30 minutes. The songs, which may or may not be on DC4, sounded incredible. Rapid-fire delivery, braggadocios, “Rollie”-filled verses of straight fire, which means Meek is in top form. One track he previewed finds him collaborating with Young Thug plus a street banger with fellow MMG member Tracy T that will be a hit. Also, no Drake diss for those wondering.

The new music from two of hip-hop’s major players plus Self Made Vol. 4 coming soon means the game will get a very healthy dose of the Maybach Music Group in 2016.
