Hell hath no fury like a Beyonce scorned. And as she made clear at Sunday night’s BET Awards, you’ll see her wrath even if it’s another R&B songstress — in this case, the IRS-embattled Lauryn Hill — who’s dissed.

As you may have heard, the former Fugees singer may face three years in prison after pleading guilty last week to years of tax evasion. But when some presenters at the BET event tried to make light of it, TMZ reports that Bey was not pleased.

The trouble started when comedian Mike Epps and the group Mindless Behavior (who apparently chose their name well) were co-presenting the award for Best R&B Artist. Mike jokingly tried to sing, which made one of the members of MB quip, “You sing BAD … like Lauryn Hill’s tax accountant bad.”

Too soon, dude. Too freakin’ soon.

The crowd gasped, and Bey was so mad that when she won the award, she ditched the acceptance speech she had planned and instead worked on the fly, saying, “I want to thank all the talented R&B women that came before me like Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige.”

She smiled graciously throughout, but even when she was finished on stage, Blue Ivy‘s mama vented about the insult, telling a BET staffer that the Hill slam was “disrespectful” and “not cool.” And after the staffer gave Beyonce props for defending Lauryn, she said, “I just felt [the diss] was wrong.”
