Last April, Usher wowed audiences with his aerial performance during his one-day run in the off-Broadway production of ‘Fuerza Bruta: Look Up.’ The singer got his jog on as he played the show’s lead actor the “Running Man” and featured songs from his upcoming album ‘Looking 4 Myself’ (due June 12).

Usher explained to MTV News that he wanted to offer audiences a picturesque version of the songs featured on the collection. “It’s not often that you’re able to give somewhat of a visual or an emotional kind of basis of what your songs mean,” he said. “A lot of times we’re running through life and we’re trying to find ourselves, and I feel like that was somewhat of what the messaging was with the show, but it was really artistic.”

Usher has been a big fan of the ‘Fuerza Bruta’ show and wanted to try it despite the physical demand it takes to perform those gravity-defining stunts. “This is more artistic an album than I’ve had in history and I felt like, yeah, it would be a physical challenge, yeah it would be a lot for me, but [I want to] at least try it,” he says. “There are many times I’d seen the show and I’d only hoped that I would make it happen. It looked it really hard, they made it look easy, but it was obviously hard. But, of course, I’ve been training and it came at a perfect time.”

Perfect time is right. Usher’s falsetto ballad ‘Climax,’ which offers a vivid portrait of a relationship that has reached its end, is his 12th No. 1 hit. In addition, his second single, ‘Scream,’ looks to be a sure-fire club anthem.

Hopefully, Usher will perform some acrobatic stunts when he hits the stage at the Billboard Music Awards, which airs live on May 20 at 8PM ET on ABC.
