The spring and summer album release list is starting to become more robust. With both underground and big named artists gearing up to drop projects, hip hop and R&B fans have a little bit of everything to look forward to.
Recent Nicki Minaj gossip revolves around Mariah Carey threatening to quit the show because of her. Could Nicki get fired? Possibly... Aint no thang for Barbie, though! I’m sure the paycheck is nice, but she’s financially stable as-is. Especially with a new album on the radar!
Last week at the VMA’s, Nicki Minaj announced that another edition of her “Pink Friday” album series is coming soon. This one is pegged as “Pink Friday Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up”. Kind of a hard title for an artist who’s been going awfully pop lately, don’t you think?
The big album release in hip hop today is the Def Jam debut of former DTP rapper, 2 Chainz – “Based On A T.R.U. Story”. The artist formerly known as Tity Boi is expecting solid first-week numbers. The album features his smash hit with Drake, “No Lie”.
It seems like every week I've been writing about artists pushing back albums this summer – Wiz Khalifa, G.O.O.D. Music, Slaughterhouse, 50 Cent and now, T.I.. His album, “Trouble Man” was scheduled for a 9/4 release date. A new date has not been scheduled yet but T.I. is hoping it hits shelves by the end of 2012.
