While the big news centered on Bessie winning more than a few Emmys last night, a program featuring Stevie Wonder also earned a major win as well at the 2015 Emmy Awards on Sunday (Sept. 20).

The CBS special Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life - An All-Star Grammy Salute won an award for Outstanding Music Direction at the Emmys. NBC's Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas and Peter Pan Live!, PBS' Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (Live From Lincoln Center) and The Kennedy Center Honors and ABC's The Oscars were also nominated in the category.

The Grammy program aired back in February following the 2015 Grammy Awards. R&B superstar Beyonce performed alongside guitarist-crooner Ed Sheeran to salute the soul icon. Other performers included Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson, India.Arie, Janelle Monae and Ariana Grande.

The singing legend has a history that runs deep with the Emmy Awards. In 1896, Wonder earned a nomination in the Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program category for his role in An All-Star Celebration Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. That same year he also scored a nod for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Comedy Series for his appearance on The Cosby Show, the episode titled “A Touch of Wonder.”

Congrats to the Grammys for winning an Emmy and, more importantly, honoring Stevie Wonder who is undoubtedly music’s most lauded piano man.
