The local heat wave will still be in effect as the racing season kicks off in Saratoga Springs on Friday. It shouldn’t have much of an impact on business, though.

NYRA announced they still anticipate a full day of racing, even with temperatures expected to reach 95 degrees. The track will be taking precautions to ensure the safety of patrons, horses and jockeys.

Meetings will take place before post time to discuss what to do if faced with the decision of whether or not to race in extreme heat. The National Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association President, Rick Violette, has a firm grip on his list of priorities, listing the horses as their first, second and third concerns, while fans fall to the fourth spot.

Aside from the heat, it should be another great season of racing in the Spa City. Another fantastic line-up of giveaways have already been announced for the season.
