A domestic violence incident turned deadly last night in Troy, when an off duty officer heard a commotion in his apartment building.

Troy police officer, Officer Adam Harbour, was at home when he heard an awful commotion in an apartment beneath his on Thursday night.  Officer Harbour jumped into action and responded to the apartment where the noise was coming from.

When Officer Harbour entered the apartment, he encountered a horrific domestic violence dispute. Officer Harbour witnessed two women in the apartment, and one of the women was being stabbed by a man.

According to Times Union, Troy Police officials identified the man has 25-year old Colin E. Davis, of Troy.  Officer Harbour ordered Davis to drop the knife, but he did not.  Officer Harbour then proceeded to fire one shot, killing Colin Davis.

Police officials advised that the victim of the stabbing was Davis’ 25-year old estranged wife. The other woman in the apartment was uninjured in her attempts to intervene in the domestic fight.

The stabbing victim was taken to Albany Medical Center and is currently listed in stable condition.

Deputy Chief Dan DeWolf described the scene.  He said, “It’s a sad day for everyone all the way around. It’s sad that this gentleman is dead, but it’s a terrible thing that he was doing to his girlfriend, or wife, or whoever this is to him, I’m not sure at this point, and that the officer had to take action.”

Officer Harbour has been with the Troy Police Department for approximately three years. He used his own personal shotgun in this incident, and he has been placed on administrative duties while the incident is being investigated.

The Troy Police Department is asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Troy Police Detective Division at (518) 270-4426 or the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office at (518) 270-4040
