New York Mets’ GM Hints at Possibility of Trade for Pitcher

We're getting closer and closer to the MLB Trade Deadline, and the New York Mets may be among the league's most active teams.

While he didn't come right out and say it, Mets' acting general manager Zack Scott said in a press conference that the team is surveying its options for adding pitchers to the roster.

"There’s uncertainty, so we need to make sure we put our best foot forward there,” - Zack Scott via MLBTradeRumors.com

The team will likely be forced to make a move by the deadline, because as their position players begin to get healthy, their pitching has begun to fall apart.

Carlos Carrasco. Noah Syndergaard. Joey Lucchesi. Jordan Yamamoto. David Peterson.

The Mets could literally build a full starting rotation out of the amount of pitchers they currently have injured, and something needs to be done about it, soon. Jacob deGrom has done everything he can to carry the team by himself, but that still leaves four other games that require a starting pitcher. Marcus Stroman and Taijuan Walker have both been godsends for the team, and even Peterson was starting to figure it out before his injury.

Robert Gsellman, who has started for the Mets in the past, is also hurt. Both Seth Lugo and Sean Reid-Foley were starters, but haven't started a Major League game in a few years. Tylor Megill has done a remarkable job in the short-term as a starting pitcher, and Corey Oswalt has held his own. That said, neither of those two players are the kind of pitcher you'd trust in a playoff series.

So, who might the Mets bring in? The Post's Ken Davidoff wrote that the Mets have checked in on Jose Berrios, while MLBTradeRumors.com listed "Twins’ Michael Pineda, the Rockies’ Jon Gray, the Pirates’ Tyler Anderson and the D-backs righty Merrill Kelly" all as speculative options.

No matter who it is, don't be shocked if a move comes before the 31st of July.
