New York Almost Leads The Nation in People Fleeing State
More people are fleeing the Empire State than most states in the nation. A neighboring state is number 1.

United Van Lines just released the company’s 45th Annual National Movers Study, which indicates Americans were on the move.
Vermont reported the most new residents. Vermont had the highest percentage of inbound migration at 74 percent. South Dakota, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Florida round out the top five for states increasing in population.
New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut and California, which have regularly topped United Van's list of outbound states, once again ranked high among states with the largest exoduses, according to United Vans Lines.
“This new data from United Van Lines is indicative of COVID-19’s impact on domestic migration patterns, with 2021 bringing an acceleration of moves to smaller, midsized towns and cities,” Michael A. Stoll, economist and professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles, stated. “We’re seeing this not only occur because of Americans’ desire to leave high density areas due to risk of infection, but also due to the transformation of how we’re able to work, with more flexibility to work remote.”
New York's outbound percentage was 63.1. Its inbound was 36.9 percent.
New York was not the top state for people moving out. Though, it did rank very close to number 1. A neighboring state was number 1 for the fourth straight year. Where did New York rank? Check out the list below.
