Nelly Talks Self-Confidence, Motivation to Succeed & Performs ‘Ride Wit Me’ for Off the Record [EXCLUSIVE]
Nelly has always been good for creating songs that kick in a sense of nostalgia once they're heard years later. His 2001 track "Ride Wit Me" is one of them. A most fitting song to throw on while cruising in the new 2016 Nissan Maxima, the rapper performs the throwback tune for Nissan's Off the Record series.
While that track is certainly an oldie but goodie, Nelly is setting his sights on the future with his new label home and songs like his sexual healing ode “The Fix.” After releasing several albums through Universal Motown and Republic Records, the St. Louis rhymer signed a deal with Records, a new, independent label by music mogul Barry Weiss and SONGS Music Publishing.
With “The Fix,” which arrives via iTunes on Aug. 14, Nelly is moving into a new phase of his career as an artist
"Self-confidence is a must. [You] cannot succeed in this business without self-confidence," he tells The Boombox for Nissan’s Off the Record series. "Because if you don't believe, sure nobody else will believe."
If you take a look at his achievements throughout his 15-year career, there are plenty. From his nine-times platinum-selling album Country Grammar to the Grammy Awards for "Hot in Herre" and "Dilemma," just to name a few, Nelly's artistry is unmatched by many. So what still motivates him to continue to grind?
"What drives me to continuously want to grow is understanding that there's different levels of the game, period," the 40-year-old states. "When I watch the Jay-Zs, the Dr. Dres, the Puffs and people constantly elevating the game... and doing the same thing that I'm doing in my genre... it makes [me] want it more."
Cruise along with Nelly as he opens up in an exclusive interview and delivers a throwback performance above. Much like Nelly's song “Ride Wit Me,” you'll certainly want to take the new 2016 Nissan Maxima for a ride.
