Need Baby Formula? This Capital Region Organization Can Help!

Scary to think this is happening, but the baby formula shortage is effecting just about every part of the country, including the Albany area. New parents have been dealing with bare or near bare shelves for the last few weeks as formula makers try to increase production.

NewsChannel 13 talked to a group of Saratoga business women, who quickly sprung into action and decided to hold a formula and diaper exchange in the city. Christine Hernandez is one of the organizers:

I think the formula shortage is the first time its really gotten so widespread that like, we really need to help each other.

Hernandez says she and two other local entrepreneurs got together and quickly came up with a plan to distribute formula and diapers at no cost to anyone who may be struggling.

With the support of the Palette Members of Saratoga, the first exchange happened this past Sunday at Allo Saratoga. Organizers say they will continue hosting the exchange each Sunday for as long as it is needed.

They do ask that anyone who is able to donate items, to please do so. Local parent, Karen Zenilman, stopped in to donate diapers on Sunday:

We're out of the stage where my little one needs diapers and formula but when I think back to when we were in that stage, I didn't know what I was doing, I shouldn't have to be stressed out about that.

The program will continue at Allo in Saratoga each Sunday.
