Mariah Carey Creates Two OPI Nail Polish Collections
Mariah Carey is the latest pop star to team up with nail lacquer giant OPI to create her own range of nail polishes. Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have all previously teamed with the company, which offers a vast array of shades with the cutest, kitschiest names, like it’s signature red shade, ‘I’m Not Really a Waitress.’ Now Mimi is crashing the polish party and will have her own!
Carey has designed two collections for the brand. The debut set will land in January, featuring eight shades. A second collection will drop later in the year. Perhaps closer to Mimi’s new album and the ‘American Idol‘ live shows, since she is now a judge? It’s all about cross-promotion, baby.
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, an OPI exec said (quotes courtesy of ELLE) that Mimi is a perfect partner for the brand since “nails are part of her personality. I really have always looked for celebrities for whom nails are very important, and it is not something you just Photoshop on a picture.”
Carey was intrinsically involved in the process. Weiss-Fischmann said, “She was very much part of the color selection … She’s classic, but she can be edgy at certain times. She’s very elegant … It appeals to me also that she’s a mom. She’s a working woman and then she has this very glitzy, glamour side to her.”
We bet Mama Mariah will be painting little Monroe’s nails with her shades. Cute!
In other Carey news, she will not be playing the role of Messiah Carey to that party animal known as Rihanna. The diva’s rep shot down rumors that ‘Riah invited RiRi to move into her L.A. abode in order to help her straighten up and fly right. There will be no swooping down salvation, courtesy of Mariah.
Her rep said there is “no truth” to the rumor that the ‘Triumphant‘ singer wants to assist since the Bajan singer reminds her of herself.
