Macklemore may have won four Grammy awards at Sunday night's (Jan. 26) ceremony, but the moment was a bittersweet one.

Although many hip-hop heads probably knew in the back of their minds that 'The Heist' creator would walk away with a Grammy for Best Rap Album, there were still those who were hoping Kendrick Lamar was going to earn the award for his critically-acclaimed 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' album. Even Macklemore himself.

The Seattle rapper's album, 'The Heist,' did end up winning that category, however, which was a disappointment to many. This screenshot of a text message Macklemore sent to Lamar, which he posted on Instagram, proves he was rooting for the West Coast MC to win. In the accompanying caption to the photo, Macklemore reveals that he sent the text after the award show.

"He deserved best rap album," he states in the caption. "I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that's taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it's proper respect."

The odd wording of the text -- especially, "It's weird and sucks that I robbed you" -- had a few folks questioning if this was maybe a backhanded compliment from the independent star. But before the show, Macklemore posted an exchange between the two entertainers, which showed a mutual camaraderie between the two. You can see the text below.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took home three other Grammys on Sunday (Jan. 26): Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for 'Thrift Shop.'

Lamar didn't walk away with any golden gramophones despite being nominated in seven categories.
