Lil Wayne Performs Unreleased “Old Town Road (Remix)” for the First Time: Watch
Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" has been remixed at least a dozen times, but fans are patiently waiting on one upcoming remix of the record-breaking track in particular. Lil Wayne hopped on the track a while ago, but his version of the single had yet to surface in full. That is until his performance at the 2019 Lollapalooza Festival on Saturday (Aug. 3).
Tunechi performed at the annual Chicago showcase to a packed crowd. And when we say packed, we mean Million Man March levels. Video surfaced of the New Orleans rapper performing his 2008 hit single "Lollipop" for a sea of humanity that appears to never end.
Later on in the show, Wayne surprises the crowd with his "Old Town Road (Remix)" verse, which had partially leaked on the internet in July.
"I got the horses in the back and she twerk it for a pony/Ooh, she got that honky-tonky, I met her on Farmers Only," Wayne raps while dancing around the stage. "White bandana 'round my neck, ooh my collar getting dirty/I pop a couple perkies, I chew 'em like they jerky/Pull up on a tractor, lean and jolly ranchers/Popa was a rolling stone, but me, I roll like tractors."
Last month, speaking exclusively with XXL, Wayne talked about how his version came about.
"They sent it to me and I did it as an official remix," he said. "I’m not sure if they was gonna use it."
He also offered advice to Nas X about staying on top after his meteoric rise to fame.
"Stay focused," Wayne added. "When you break that record, make sure it’s not a record to you. Make sure you don’t even realize it nor recognize it at all. Put that in your head that someone else broke that record and you want to break their record. Plain and simple. Because I can’t even tell you if I was No. 1 on the charts because it never mattered. The only thing that ever should matter, bro, is your next song."
