Kendrick Lamar, SZA and TDE Sued for 'All The Stars' Artwork

After alleging that her artwork was stolen for Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All The Stars" video, the first from the Black Panther: The Album soundtrack, British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor is now suing Kendrick, SZA and TDE.

Specifically, Viktor says her work, "Constellations I," "Constellations II" and "Constellations III" were used in the video. She says that she was contacted by Marvel movie reps twice, once back in November 2016 and as recently as January 2018, and asked if her art could be used—she said no.

Now, she's suing, TMZ reports.

“Why would they do this? It’s an ethical issue, because what the whole film purports is that it’s about black empowerment, African excellence — that’s the whole concept of the story. And at the same time they’re stealing from African artists," Viktor told the Times in an interview earlier this month, when she first alleged her work was stolen.

In her lawsuit, Viktor says the "All The Stars" video tries to mimic the "unique look and feel" of her works, but also incorporates"specific copyrightable elements" including "stylized motifs of mythical animals, gilded geometric forms on a black background, and distinctively textured areas and patterns."

Reps for SZA and Kendrick Lamar have not yet commented on the suit.
