A month after departing from Hot 97, Angie Martinez is back on the radio dial -- this time on Power 105.1 FM. During her debut show on Thursday (July 17), a slew of hip-hop's big names, including Diddy and DJ Khaled, came through to congratulate the veteran radio personality on her new radio gig.

But near the end of her time slot, Jay Z called up to give props to Martinez. The two friends engaged in some witty banter before Hov saluted the radio vet on her accomplishments.

“I really believe that what you are about to accomplish in the next phase of your life will dwarf everything that you’ve ever done,” said Jay, who was vacationing at the Hamptons during the call. “Because, that’s what people that are great do. You’re not termed the voice of New York for no reason. You’re an institution in radio. That’s a special feat to accomplish.”

True indeed.

Martinez spent two decades on Hot 97 before making the leap to the rival station, Power 105. The 43-year-old radio vet also has a new website, aptly titled The Voice of NY.

Congratulations to Angie Martinez. We wish her the best on her new radio journey.
