You’re More Likely To Lose Your Job In THESE Upstate New York Cities
The job market is in shambles right now. It's almost impossible to land a new position, and even harder to keep one.
Layoffs are sweeping across America, but some areas are more prone than others, and a few Upstate New York cities are at higher risk than most.

What's Causing These Layoffs?
America is facing a massive crisis. We have a surplus of unemployed people looking for work, and millions being laid off from their jobs every month. Something doesn't correlate, supply should be higher than demand, right?
We're forgetting the major player that just jumped into the picture: A.I. is taking jobs left and right. A recent study by Goldman Sachs has predicted around 10 million layoffs directly caused by A.I., which comes to about six or seven percent of the active workforce. If these cuts do come to life, it would firmly place America in the middle of a recession, pushing the overall unemployment total to around 11%.
Which Upstate Cities are at the Highest Risk?
24/7 Wall St. just released a study showing the 36 cities across the United States that are losing the most jobs. Of those 36, SIX are located in Upstate New York. Those cities are as follows:
- (28) Glens Falls
- (25) Binghamton
- (14) Utica-Rome
- (13) Watertown-Fort Drum
- (11) Buffalo-Cheektowaga
- (6) Elmira
Out of the Capital region, Glens Falls is the only one to make the list, and things have actually been looking better. Between 2023 and 2024, we saw a 0.7% drop in unemployment in the city, and that number seems to only be getting lower throughout 2025.
