Upstate New York Burger Challenge: Can You Conquer ‘The Goliath?’
If you're considering taking on an Upstate New York food challenge called " The Goliath," you might need Joey Chestnut's stomach or enough Pepto to serve all of Warren County—or both!
Upstate New York Food Challenge
While scrolling through Facebook recently, I saw a post from Mark's Hometown'cue in Warrensburg, New York.
Mark's is known for their delicious barbeque, but this post showed an image of a man (his face cropped out to protect the innocent) attempting a behemoth food challenge called The Goliath.
According to head chef and owner Darrell Langworthy, the Goliath is a "simple challenge" made with their freshly made smash burgers.
What is The Goliath?
While it may be simple to make, it's anything but simple to finish.
Since the challenge began in December, according to Langworthy, nobody has finished this 6,000-calorie collosus in the allotted time of 20 minutes, and here's why:
- The Goliath features 10 four oz. Patties (40 ounces of beef!)
- 10 slices of American cheese
- Bun on top and bottom
- Served with a side of 1.5 pounds of chili cheese tots.
What Becomes of the Super Human Who Defeats It?
Langworthy told us it costs $34 to take on The Goliath, "but if the person can eat it in the allotted time (20 minutes), then it’s free, and they will get their name on the wall of fame and a shout-out on our FB page."
Although nobody's been able to finish it, Langworthy told us that the first person to complete the challenge will also help design the next food challenge, which he says might be a BBQ challenge.
"As much as this challenge is fun, I do feel it’s our commitment to give back to the community that is the heart of our BBQ in the little town of Warrensburg, NY," he added.
