Mom And 1-Year-Old Die At Airbnb In Upstate NY

A mom and her young daughter were tragically killed while on vacation at an Upstate New York Airbnb in October, and the owners of the unit have officially been charged.

According to sources, 35-year-old Shannon Hubbard, an elementary school teacher from Brewster, Massachusetts, and her 1-year-old daughter died from a fire while staying at an Airbnb back on October 13th.

The New York State Police say that the Hubbard family was on vacation in Clinton, New York, about an hour and 40 minutes northwest of Albany, just south of Utica.

While staying at the Airbnb, sources say that a fire broke out, and Shannon tried to rescue her young daughter, but tragically, they both perished.

Shannon's husband and their 3-year-old son survived.

Owners Charged, Tragedy Could Have Been Prevented

Sources say that Dennis Darcy, 57, and Meredith Darcy, 55, were both charged with two counts of manslaughter in the second degree, accused of recklessly causing the deaths.

Throughout the investigation, members of the NYSP found that the Darcys’ home was not adequately equipped with functional smoke detectors and violated fire and building codes.

The property did not comply with the state of New York's fire, building, and residential codes, and sources also say that the Darcys did not have the appropriate permit to rent the home.

Maggie June Remebered

In an obituary written last October, family members wrote about the little girl who sadly passed away, stating:

Maggie June will always be remembered for her spunky personality. Nobody who saw her will forget her giggles. She had a perfect smile with a single dimple. She had just gotten her first tooth, was taking her first steps, and loved to dance. Maggie June lit up a room just by being in it. She was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers.
