The holiday season is finally here. Everyone across the Capital Region is preparing for celebrations, food, and family in their own way. It can be a stressful time, however, getting everything picture perfect, and everyone has their own way to cope. Maybe you'll go on a drive to clear your head, or maybe you'll pour a drink or two...

Some people, unfortunately, do both at the same time.

The Last Person You Want to Hit

On Saturday, November 22nd, Thomas E. Fogarty was arrested in Saratoga Springs. At around 4:39 a.m., he was travelling southbound on Pierce Road when he blew through a stop sign, and failed to yield to a Saratoga County Sheriff's Vehicle. You can imagine how that turned out.

Fogarty struck the police cruiser, then took off on foot. He was picked up shortly later on Twilight Drive, where he refused a breathalyzer test and a chemical blood test. As you'd imagine, that landed him in cuffs.

Never Drink and Drive

The deputy inside the Sheriff's vehicle was not seriously injured, but it's a stroke of luck that he wasn't. Drinking and Driving, especially around the holidays is an incredibly dangerous and highly illegal gamble. Up to 500 people will likely be killed due to drunk driving over Thanksgiving week alone.

So please. I don't care how high your alcohol tolerance is, or how good you are behind a wheel. It's not worth the risk. Keep yourself, and everyone else on the road safe this holiday, and DON'T drink and drive.
