This one is surprising as this popular burger chain was a Capital Region favorite.

And when visiting one of your favorite local restaurants the last thing you want to see is a sign that says "Due to economic and labor conditions, this restaurant is closed." We made such a huge effort during the pandemic to support our local businesses, and maybe now they need that support more than ever?

That said, even though the burger landscape is certainly competitive here in the Capital Region when it comes to chains, all of them always seem busy and well-liked. That is why it was extra surprising that one of the bigger chains in the region has shut down three local restaurants.

Smashburger Suddenly Closes 3 Capital Region Locations

News of Smashburger closing locally started percolating in the local Whats Going On Saratoga Facebook group earlier this week. My wife and I then saw the sign above at our local Smashburger in Clifton Park announcing the closure and the Times Union confirmed today the eatery has closed their Colonie, Clifton Park, and Saratoga Springs locations. The TU story says the phones at all 3 are going unanswered and online ordering at the Smashburger website has been disabled.

Smashburger was one of my favorites and I always left happy with my meal at all 3 of these locations. Even with a quality product, these closures are just another sign of how  tough it is to keep a business afloat these days with all the various economic and employment challenges.
