This could have been a lot worse if not for a good samaritan, but the video itself is pretty disturbing and today, Albany Police are asking for help in identifying a woman seen in the video who they say placed a living cat in a duffel bag and left it near garbage cans -  alone to die.

According to a Facebook post by the Albany Police, the incident happened on Friday, January 27, 2023.  That's when according to police, "the pictured suspect abandoned a female cat by placing the cat into a duffel bag style carrier and leaving the cat next to garbage cans."

Police want help IDing the woman in the video

It's not the best quality, but there's enough to see here - and some may find it distressing.  Watch as this woman casually walks up to the garbage cans near Henry Johnson Blvd. in Albany, and places a duffel bag with a cat inside it, alone for dead.

Police are treating this as an "ongoing animal cruelty investigation."

Good news for Newt!

Albany Police say that an Animal Control Officer turned her over to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society where she was evaluated, given a name, and then put up for adoption.
The cat, who has been named “Newt,” is currently in good health and has since been adopted.
