Your Guide To Parking In New York’s Capital Region
I lived in the suburbs for most of my life. Not only that, I was always, at a minimum, an hour and a half away from the nearest city.
As such, figuring out the intricacies of urban life is difficult for me, especially parking...
Park on Lark
Recently, the Sheriff of Lark Street posted a photo on Facebook of an incredibly confusing "No Parking" sign on Lark Street. This began the discussion that parking in Albany and the surrounding areas is not easy... at all.
Signs like these can create a misleading picture for someone hoping to park, so let's break some down:

NO Parking (Specific Time/Specific Date)
This one's pretty self explanatory. If you see one of these signs, ensure that your vehicle is moved by the time specified, or else you'll be facing a ticket or tow (I've suffered both here. Neither are fun).

If the sign has an arrow on it, you're in the clear to park whenever as long as you are on the opposite side of the direction the arrow is pointing.
NO Parking: Loading Zone
These can be a bit more tricky. Usually signs with this will have a certain day & time listed on them. During these hours, the space is used as a loading zone which means you can't park, stop, or otherwise impede the space. If it's not within the time frame, you're in the clear.
2 HR Parking

Lastly, 2 Hour parking signs, which are commonplace through the region. These spaces allow you to park your car for two hours between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, but outside of those hours, you can park as you please.
Where to Find Parking
Don't want to deal with all of this? Don't worry! The cities in the Capital Region have a plethora of parking garages and lots that can either be paid for hourly, or require a parking pass that will allow you to park as you please.
Make sure to read up on all the rules for any specific garages/lots, as they differ from space to space.
