According to travel experts, one Upstate New York city is not getting the adulation it deserves.

If praise for New York cities and towns was rated like a Yelp or Google review, places like New York City, Saratoga Springs, Cooperstown, Lake George, and Skaneateles, to name a few, would all average 5 stars. But, New York is a vast state and many other cities and towns fall under the radar that offer the same culture, beauty, and charm.

Thrillist Names The Most Underrated Town In Every State

So what makes a city or town 'underrated?' The travel experts at Thrillist set out to find the "...treasures hiding in plain sight..." that would "...exceed their expectations." In Massachusetts, it was Worcester that pleasantly surprised and in Vermont it was Jay that exceeded expectations. And in New York, it was an Upstate college city that Thrillest says offers more than "...tailgating and dive bars."

Ithaca Is New York's Most Underrated Town

Here in Upstate New York, Ithaca is pretty highly regarded. Located at the southern end of Cayuga Lake, it's a great college city that offers arts, culture, great dining, and entertainment. Plus, it is also surrounded by some stunning natural wonders.

According to Thrillist, outside New York, Ithaca is not known for much more than its highly-rated colleges like Cornell University and Ithaca College. Thrillist says Ithaca's walkable downtown, shopping, restaurants, and great nightlife make the city a highly desirable destination.
