A new Saratoga County food market seeks to bridge the gap between New York City and the Saratoga area.

While we have some great chain supermarkets in the Capital Region, they do not cover some of the specialties that a gourmet market can bring to the table. One of those food gaps is what Saratoga County's newest market will fill.

When I was up in Wilton Friday for the annual Blue Friday fundraiser, I noticed something brewing at the old Pier 1 location on Route 50.

Yes, the new Old World Gourmet market is set to celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, May 21st!

According to a report from Saratoga Living, the new market is owned by Maria and John Biagini. They recently moved from Brooklyn to Saratoga after falling in love with the Spa City while spending summers Upstate. But one thing has been missing since they made the move: access to great food from downstate! That's where the idea for their new Old World Food Market was born.  John, who spent years working in the food industry, imagined he and his wife could bring those food favorites to the Saratoga area.

Saraoga Living says the new market will feature "homemade offerings from a variety of cultures" along with "full lines of produce, fish, dairy, and meat." The new market will also feature their own New York City-inspired pizza!

The Times Union says this market will also feature a genius baking process: it will import douhgs made with New York City water to make bagels and breads!

One thing that is truly difficult to replicate is any region's local food flair and flavor. New York City is such a prime destination for cuisine, having a direct link to it here in the Capital Region will be tasty addition to the local food scene.
