Popular Discount Retailer To Open New Capital Region Location
2024 and the first half of 2025 were so tough on national retail chains. Bankruptcies, closings, and restructurings were all too common as the retail landscape continues to evolve.
JOANN, Big Lots, Advance Auto Parts, Forever 21, and Dollar General are some of the national retailers that have announced nationwide closures that affected Capital Region stores. Among those closures was Party City folding, including four locations in Albany, Clifton Park, Latham, and Schenectady. One of those locations is about to take on a new life.

Dollar Tree Takes Over Leases Of Party City Stores
According to a Supermarket News report, earlier this year, Dollar Tree took over the leases of 148 Party City locations. The discount retailer is now set to open in one of those Capital Region locations.
While visiting the Dollar Tree on 146 in Clifton Park near the 146/146A circle, the above sign caught my eye. A sales representative informed me that the new Dollar Tree was getting ready to open in the old Party City at The Crossings in Clifton Park!
Dollar Tree Top Open In Old Clifton Park Party City
There has been no official announcement on when the new store will open, but the fact that they are now hiring is a good indicator that it will be soon. This would be the third Clifton Park location, joining the aforementioned Dollar Tree on Route 146 and a location in the Market 32 Plaza on Park Avenue near the Northway.
