
Crews in Montgomery County Continue Search for Missing Fisherman
Fisherman Falls in Mohawk River on Thursday
The search continues in Montgomery County for a man who police say fell into the Mohawk River on Thursday morning. Last night, authorities suspended their search due to darkness, but multiple units are back in the area this morning searching for the 31-year-old and have asked residents to avoid the area if possible.
According to sources, shortly before11:35 Thursday morning, the unnamed man was fishing near Lock 12 in Fort Hunter. His line got snagged, and he dropped his pole. He bent down to grab it, fell into the water, and was taken away by the strong current.
Sources say that dispatch got the call at 11:35, arrived on the scene in under 3 minutes, and got to work using drones, sonar, and about 50 people on foot trying to locate him.
Search for Missing Man Continues on Friday Morning
According to a Facebook post from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, "Traffic on Main Street in Fort Hunter and Tribes Hill may experience delays today due to law enforcement activity in a search for a missing 31-year-old male who fell into the Mohawk River yesterday."
The Public is Asked to Avoid the Area
The search will continue today using air, land, and water resources. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the male's identity would be released later.
