Alleged Animal Abuser from Upstate NY Charged after Grisly Find

The animal abuse allegations made against a woman in Troy are disturbing, to say the least - but kudos to our local law enforcement for doing what was necessary to make sure people like this don't ever own an animal again.

According to a release by the Albany Police Department, 27-year-old Elisa Sumner of Troy is accused of intentionally killing a German Shepherd.

Back in August, sometime between the 21st and 29th, police say Sumner killed her German Shepherd dog “Nala” with "no justifiable purpose" in the area of Lark Street, Albany.

In addition to the allegations made in regard to Nala, police say Sumner "failed to provide proper sustenance to four other dogs, while keeping them in a residence covered in urine, feces, and garbage."

The judge barred Sumner from owning or taking custody of any animals.

If you witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, report the matter immediately to local law enforcement and/or to your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or other humane enforcement agencies.

Over a decade ago, the Albany County Animal Abuser Registry was created by an act of the Albany County Legislature known as Local Law K. The registry, hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, is a service to the public.

The following people seen on this list have been convicted of animal cruelty and while it's unclear exactly what they're guilty of, one thing is abundantly clear:

They are not allowed to own, possess, reside, have custody of, or intentionally engage in any physical contact with any animal.  Period.
