What Did The Owners Say About Closing?

In a Facebook post about the announcement, the owners said, in part,

We have weathered a lot of storms since opening in 2015 — the restaurant/cafe business has always been a hard one, with razor-thin margins at best — and we need to take a breath and reevaluate what kind of business we want to be/should be running. Over the past 8+ years working on SM CO we've both had to keep full-time jobs, have never taken any pay, and have put our health and relationships on the back burner. As all small business owners do, we chose to make these sacrifices and we wouldn't change a thing in retrospect but as we look to start the next phase in our lives (starting a family!) we're hoping to find a more sustainable way to do business. We’ve therefore made the difficult decision to shut down, regroup, and focus on building something better from the ground up.
