Gun Found In A Bucket of Shellfish, Something Is Fishy In This New York Town
Recently New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officers were experiencing a fairly typical day of patrolling, observing and keeping the public safe. By the end of the day things would be anything but typical.
On Sunday April 13th NYSDEC officers were patrolling in Kings County when they observed a group of people unlawfully taking shellfish. By the time the investigation was complete, officers discovered a handgun hidden in a bucket of shellfish.

According to a NYSDEC press release, DEC officer Bieber witnessed a group of individuals illegally taking shellfish from an uncertified area of Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn. Shellfish from uncertified areas are not safe to eat.
Allegedly, once the group saw officer Bieber, the individuals started to run away from the scene. These suspects weren't fast enough as all but one were rounded up and detained. The one that initially got away fled into the woods with a bucket of shellfish.
Backup arrived to assist officer Bieber with the investigation and to search the woods for the escaped suspect. Officers were able to locate 2 buckets of freshly harvested illegal shellfish, but that's not all.
At the bottom of one of these buckets officers discovered a handgun. After interviewing the suspects officers learned that, while digging for clams, one of them dug up a discarded handgun and hid it in a bucket of shellfish.
In the end 2 clammers were charged with taking clams from uncertified waters. The handgun was turned over to the New York City Police Department Intelligence Bureau for analysis and further investigation.
