New York Jets’ Fan Goes Viral for Risky Tattoo! Is He Crazy, or is He a Genius?
The life of a New York Jets' fan is anything but easy.
After Joe Namath and the Jets won Super Bowl III in 1969, the franchise has been marred in mediocrity, close calls, and terrible decisions at the QB position. More recently, however, it seems as though New York has put together a very strong roster, and may be on the verge of competing in the playoffs sooner, rather than later.
One New York Jets' fan is so confident about the direction of his favorite team, that they chose to celebrate his team's next Super Bowl victory early, and permanently.
Are they a genius, or will they look silly over the next 365 days?
New York Jets' Fan Risks it All with Tattoo Celebrating Super Bowl Win
A post on Bleacher Report's Facebook page shared an image of a New York Jets' fan showing off a new tattoo for their personal Instagram page. Within the span of one year (or so), this photo will become either famous, or infamous, for the rest of time.
Here's the photo that B/R posted, via @brettgeffner on Instagram:
In the wise words of Pepper Brooks from the movie Dodgeball, "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."
I am never one to judge the habits or actions of a sports fan. The idea of "fandom" is a very subjective thing, and what seems crazy to one person, may be completely sane to the person sitting next to them in the stands. Look no further than Upstate New York, where we find the table-smashing, condiment-spraying Bills Mafia, one of the most famous groups of fans in sports today.
That all being said...a permanent tattoo? Of a Super Bowl victory next year? FOR THE NEW YORK JETS?
I am a huge fan of the direction of the New York Jets. Take away their QB woes in 2022, and the Jets are probably a playoff team. For example, it was recently announced that New York swept the PFWA Rookie of the Year award voting, with Sauce Gardner winning NFL and Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Garrett Wilson winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.
They're headed in the right direction, but winning the Super Bowl in just over 365 days seems like a stretch. Stranger things have happened in sports, however, and we could look back on @brettgeffner as a genius when it's all said and done.
Here are some of our favorite comments on B/R's Facebook post:
"Well, at least if he gets it wrong, all he has to get removed are the L and the V...the Jets were actually the Super Bowl 3 champions!" - Charles Ingleton Jr.
"Super Bowl is two words, not one." - Tom Edmonds
"I wish there was a clown button." - Joseph Maffei
"Someone got last in fantasy." - Jonathan Young
"Clearly he’s a time traveler." - Tobi Oluwole
We've seen the photo (and chuckled at it). We've read the responses. Now, all we can do is wait, and see if the tattoo comes true, or if @brettgeffner's temporary pain becomes permanent next winter.
