With the Yankees trailing Baltimore 5-4 in the top half of the 9th inning, according to Sanchez, relief pitcher Michael King and his battery-mate, Ben Rortvert were having difficulty communicating through the 'Pitch Com,' a device that is used to call pitches instead of the traditional hand signals used by catchers. As King's frustration grew, the pair realized that the communication device was not longer working. Not knowing the protocol of how to deal with the malfunction in the age of the pitch-clock, King chucked the device towards the Yankees dugout. To the pitcher's surprise, the little plastic device went flying.

“It took off like a frisbee and I saw it floating,” King told nypost.com. The device flew into the stands. The lucky fan who caught the 'Pitch Com' was seen having fun pushing the buttons. The Post reported that the Yankees did get the device back. King jokingly commented, “Luckily it wasn’t working.” Luckily, the Yankees have a healthy Michael King and he was able to finish off the Orioles with two stellar innings of relief and a Pinstripes victory.
