I'm flying this weekend and I'm a little nervous about it. I'm not scared to fly but according to a new study conducted by Coventry Direct, almost 25% of people in New York are fearful of flying. That means about 1 out of every 4 people feels nervous about getting on a plane.

Plane Crash News Makes People Worry

Across the country, many people say they are more afraid of flying because they keep seeing stories about plane crashes. Three out of four travelers said this news makes them feel anxious.

FAA Layoffs Make People Feel Unsafe

The group in charge of air safety, called the FAA, had recent job cuts. Two out of three people said these layoffs made them more afraid to fly. When there are fewer workers, people worry planes are not as safe.

Some Are Skipping Travel Plans

Because of these fears, 14% of people in the study said they canceled their travel plans this year. That means some people are not flying at all, even if they had a vacation or trip planned.

Flying Is Important for Many People

Flying helps people visit family, go on vacation, or travel for work. But if someone is afraid to fly, they might miss out on these things. Apparently, more and more New Yorkers are feeling this way.
