The Buffalo Bills coaching staff and front office is in Indianapolis for the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Yesterday was media day and arrivals, while today is the first full day of the combine.

The Bills needs include wide receiver, defensive line and safety, but if we know Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane enough, they will also be looking long and hard at positions like cornerback and offensive line.

The new league year is March 14th. That's also when free agency starts, but the legal tampering period starts on March 11th.

The Bills will have work to do with the salary cap before then. As of yesterday, they were roughly $41 million over the cap in 2024, but they made a move to get closer to being cap compliant.

According to Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network, the Bills did a conversion in offensive lineman Connor McGovern's contract. It frees up $3.74 million in cap space.

This means the Bills are roughly $37-38 million over the cap. They will surely restructure Josh Allen's salary into a bonus conversion this year, which will free up $23 million. Dion Dawkins and Von Miller are two more players who would be strong conversion candidates, with Tre White, Nyheim Hines and Deonte Harty possible cap casualties.

Remember, the Bills need to not only be cap compliant, but enough money to sign a handful of free agents and their draft picks. Beane still has a lot of work ahead of him.

Buffalo likely won't be active the first few days of free agency but after that initial wave is when Beane will make news.
