Military authorities removed a Halloween display that depicted a black family hanging from a tree at Fort Campbell.

Military officials said the display was removed because it could be considered offensive.

“Displays of an offensive nature are not reflective of Army values and the family-friendly environment provided for employees and residents of the Fort Campbell community,” said Brendalyn Carpenter, a spokeswoman for the base.

This is a result of cultural ignorance. To people who were educated on some of the horrible things that African Americans had to endure in this country, this seems like common sense that this display is inappropriate.

The history of the United States is often manipulated because no one likes to talk America's racist past. To anyone with cultural knowledge of past events, the above Halloween display looks exactly like a real lynching.

One right-wing Modern American Revolution group denied the display was racially motivated, claiming in a Facebook post that the photo depicted a scene from the 2012 horror movie, “Sinister.”

“In it, a WHITE family had been killed by their possessed child,” the group posted. “So, anyone who tries to say this is racist is wrong. Since the gentleman is an active duty soldier living on a federal military installation, he has no 1st Amendment rights. Living on post is VERY different than living off post. …End of story!”

Either way, the person who put this display up is either extremely stupid/ignorant or a racist...you make the choice.  In 2014, the information is right there for you to understand why a display like this would be offensive to black people.
