French Montana Gets Sworn in as a U.S. Citizen
French Montana has officially earned his stars and stripes as a U.S. citizen after being sworn in on Wednesday morning (June 13) in New Jersey, TMZ reports.
The Morocco-born rapper, by way of the Bronx, started the process of becoming a citizen in February 2017. He shared the exciting new chapter in his life via his Instagram story shortly after taking his oath of allegiance.
In the brief video clip, the "Unforgettable" rapper is seen hilariously singing his own personal rendition of the national anthem. But, from the looks of it, French nailed the naturalization process and can now vote in the upcoming 2020 election and also get his hands on a U.S. passport.
"Officially a citizen today. Thank you Allah," he wrote as the video's caption.
At the age of 13, French immigrated to the U.S. from his native Morocco. However, French has never lost sight of his roots throughout his expansive music career. At the top of the year, French invited fans to the streets of Morocco's Blue City, Chefchaouen, for his captivating visual for "Famous," a standout cut off his Jungle Rules album.
The Coke Boy frontman has also done some serious charity work internationally, specifically for the East African country of Uganda. After visiting to film his "Unforgettable" video last year, French made a donation of $100,000 to the Mama Hope Foundation, an organization that works to end extreme poverty. French's donation has since gone on to continue their efforts and facilitate a health care initiative for pregnant women. He also made a significant contribution to the Suubi "Hope" Health Center there, which has now opened and is able to serve 300,000 people in need.
Congrats on becoming a U.S. citizen, French!
