After a total of nearly ten years in business, a popular Asian restaurant is closing its doors for good this weekend. But even though the restaurant won't exist, they have plans to serve the public in a different way and in a different Capital Region city.

Asian Restaurant Started Nearly 10 Years Ago in Schenectady

Thai Thai Bistro first opened in downtown Schenectady back in 2013. The owner, Piyamas DeMasi was once a waitress at the former Bangkok Bistro. Three years after opening, the building was deemed unsafe after a building connected to theirs was demolished. They then moved to Niskayuna and had been there since 2016 according to the Times Union.

The Owner Is Facing Legal Troubles

Piyamas DeMasi will be sentenced in May for charges of thirteen counts of labor trafficking that she plead guilty to. Authorities say she exploited a chef she brought in from Thailand to work at Thai Thai Bistro. If convicted, she could be facing local jail time and probation or one to three years in prison.

Is There Another Business That DeMasi Will Open?

DeMasi said that they are looking to open an Asian market in Saratoga Springs next year. They will offer prepared foods from the restaurant menus and bao-bun ice cream and bubble tea. DeMasi posted a message on the Thai Thai Bistro Facebook page about the closing of the restaurant and the Asian market.

We would like to take this time to thank all of you who were with us for over five years at this location in Niskayuna. It was a joy to create for you the best of Thai Cuisine. Though We will be closing Thai Thai Bistro in Niskayuna, We are very excited about the future. We intend to open a store in Saratoga Springs next year, which will be multi-purposed: an Asian grocery store that will sell both Thai Thai food, Karma food.

Thai Thai Bistro will close after the dinner service this Saturday, April 30th.
