Disgraced Ex-New York Mets Manager Booted From Job In Mexico
The stories were horrible. The embarrassment will linger for years for many parties involved. His nickname amongst some of Major League Baseball's media, "d__k pic Mick," is as cringe-worthy as it gets. Now, after getting suspended from MLB for the 2022 season for his lewd behavior, former New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway has been bounced from another job.
In February of 2021, Brittany Ghiroli and Katie Strang of the Athletic wrong a story describing the predatory sexual behavior of the former Mets' manager, some of it while he was employed in New York, towards female members of the media. The reporters interviewed five women, who spoke to them on the condition that they not be identified, said that the unwanted sexual advances and communications by Callaway "spanned at least five years, multiple cities and three teams."
Two of the women told the Athletic that they were warned about Callaway's behavior from other members of the media members and others who worked in baseball. “It was the worst-kept secret in sports,” one of the women told the Athletic. That behavior subsequently led to being fired by the Los Angelas Angels as their pitching coach, after being fired by the Mets (for ineptness as a manager not behavior, as far as we know) and then being suspended by MLB for 2022. Callaway was hired to by the Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League to manage this season.
The Mexican League is great professional baseball. Many players have made the transition from the Mexican Baseball League to MLB. Teams and fans have high expectations. According to a report on cbssports.com, on Monday, Callaway was fired by Acereros de Monclova after he managed the team to a 16-17 start. The team's performance was given as the sole reason.
After the Mets batted out of order in a game in 2018 because of a miscue on the line-up card by Callaway, I was pretty much convinced that managing in the big leagues was over the disgraced manager's head. It made sense when all of the allegations came out that Callaway had other things on his mind besides winning ballgames.
