The mass exodus of players off of the New York Giants' roster is continuing as we speak.

The Giants were aggressive at the beginning of the 2022 NFL offseason, but while other teams were adding, they were subtracting. The team had to shed an estimated $40 million in salary cap, and bid adieu to familiar faces on offense and defense in order to do so.

While the pace of the moves being made has slowed considerably, certain names are still floating around the trade rumor mill, and another offensive weapon has joined that group.

The player in question this time around, is wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton is a veteran of three NFL seasons, and was the team's leader in receiving yards during his first two seasons in the league. He also led the team in receiving touchdowns as a rookie, with eight back in 2019.

This past season, however, was a much different story.

Amidst a revolving door of quarterbacks and offensive play-callers, Slayton was lost in the shuffle for a large part of 2021. His production cratered, and he never seemed to have any chemistry with a quarterback not named Daniel Jones. That's not necessarily his fault, but it raised questions about his consistency as a long-term option on this team.

With a new leadership group in New York, led by GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, a number of "old regime" players have been shipped out of town. That group includes a few talented players; players who could've made an impact on the 2022 team, but between attitude and salary, weren't a fit moving forward.

According to CBS Sports' report on the rumors swirling around Slayton, he's seen his salary increase from $920,000 to $2.5 million due to performance bonuses being hit. Unfortunately, his good performances may end up being the main reason why his time in New York comes to an end, as teams who do have a bit more money to spend would surely take a flyer on a young wide receiver with upside.

That describes Slayton perfectly, and though he would certainly benefit quarterback Daniel Jones and the offense this season, he may be on the outside looking in as the Giants approach the 2022 NFL Draft.
