Albany Snow Prediction For Saturday’s ‘Bomb Cyclone’ On the Rise

Saturday's storm will move quickly through the Capital Region but will bring with it fast snowfall and strong winds.

It's the first sign of Spring this weekend in Upstate New York. Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 am Saturday as our clocks spring ahead. But before the, a sign that winter has plenty of steam left will speed through the area.

Winter Storm Warning In Effect 4 am - 10 pm Saturday

According to the National Weather Service, we now have a Winter Storm Warning in effect for the Capital Region and most of the state of New York. It will bring snowfall of 1 inch per hour from late morning to afternoon Saturday, as well as gusty winds.

The Weather Channel says  low pressure and cold air in the region will most likely turn this storm into a bomb-cyclone which means "... a more intense storm, especially when it comes to the strength of the winds it can unleash."

The term is scarier than it sounds, but it does mean weather conditions will not be great with high winds and blowing snow.

How Much Snow Will the Capital Region get?

Earlier this week Albany was looking at a possible 3 to 6 inches of snow and now that prediction has creeped up into the range of 6 to 8 inches for the area. But, based on the map below from the National Weather Service - that total could easily shift up more with bands of 8 to 12 inches of accumulation surrounding the Capital Region.

So as you get ready for the first sign of spring with Daylight Saving Time, get ready for another last blast of winter this weekend as well!
