2 A.M. Closing Time For Albany Bars Being Considered

If you thought small businesses in Albany were struggling now, wait until a 2 a.m. closing time is enforced instead of the current 4 a.m. time.

According to Times Union. Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy is eyeing a 2 a.m. closing time for bars in the county in response to the latest stats of alcohol-related deaths. “Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.,” McCoy said during a recent University of Albany forum about underage drinking. “I’m hoping now with the change, everyone is willing to do it together as a group.”

Now the county has tried this before and has been met with resistance because small business owners know this would be a death sentence to their revenue. This proposition currently was not brought to the attention of the Mayor so right now it is just all talk.

These local bars and restaurants have to focus on the type of crowd they allow in and provide proper security measures to get the troublemakers out on a continuous basis. Most people do not even venture out to a club or restaurant until 11 pm or 12 am.

With this closing time of 2 a.m., you literally would have not much time to enjoy yourself. What’s your take on this?
