Lil Wayne may still be in limbo with the release of his 11th studio album, Tha Carter V, however there is another Carter project on the way. A few months ago, Young Thug announced he would pick up were Wayne left off, continuing Tha Carter series, with albums VI through X. Now it looks like Thugger is holding true to his word.

The Atlanta rhymer revealed the mixtape release date and the cover art for the project in a post on his Instagram account. However, he simplifies Wayne's title here -- no Roman numerals. “#c6otw 4/17,” Thugga wrote along with the cover, which features the rapper standing in a spotlight against a red background. The shirtless “Hookah” rhymer dons a bandana and Carter Six is written horizontally below his waist.

Songs like his recently released single “Check” will likely appear on the effort. The 300 Entertainment signee's mixtape is coming sooner than fans may have thought and certainly before Lil Wayne’s Carter V.

Could Birdman be behind Thug's move to release a mixtape title continuing Tha Carter series? The release is obviously going forward without Lil Wayne’s approval. The Sorry 4 the Wait 2 rapper, who is currently on his Release Partiez tour in support of the mixtape, recently took shots at both Baby and Thug in a recent freestyle session. Weezy is still moving forward with his $51 million lawsuit against his former father figure. Looks like this is one battle that will continue to rage on.

Young Thug's Carter 6 arrives April 17.
