Judging by Wiz Khalifa‘s stoned-out rhymes, you would think that Snoop Dogg was a major influence to him. You would be wrong. In fact, it wasn’t the Doggfather who inspired him to rhyme, it was Diddy. Huh?

“For real, for real: Puff Daddy — that’s who made me want to become a rapper,” Wiz tells the Russ Parr Morning Show. “He just looked like a rapper to me when I seen him on TV.”

“I always heard Snoop, and I loved Snoop’s music, but when I saw Puffy on TV, he was just doing his thing,” he continues. “I was like, ‘Man, I could do that.’”

Wiz is well on his way to becoming the next Diddy, who came in at No. 1 on Forbes’ list of the Five Wealthiest Rap Moguls. He has established a formidable rap crew and label Taylor Gang, which will appear on the Source’s June issue; his debut album ‘Rolling Papers’ went platinum (over 1 million shipped); he just dropped his new anthemic single, ‘Work Hard, Play Hard‘; and he’s about to embark on a late-summer tour with fellow Pittsburgh rhyme-spitter Mac Miller.

Although Wiz doesn’t sound like Diddy or rock shiny suits like he did back in the late ’90s, the ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper feels he shares a musical bond with the rap mogul.

“We got the same spirit, the same soul,” he says. “Kind of flamboyant, kind of savage.”

Take that … take that … take that.
