Watch a Clip From the Upcoming Tupac Biopic ‘All Eyez on Me’
Production for the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me has been ongoing since mid-December, with casting news trickling in throughout the following month. Due in large part to the success of 2015's Straight Outta Compton, there is a heightened awareness and demand for hip-hop stories in film, with the first look at the movie coming by way of a behind-the-scenes Instagram video post.
The above clip, which starts out on a monitor and then pans to show those viewing it, shows a scene of Pac that references an interview he did outside a courthouse in 1994. In it, Demetrius Shipp Jr., who plays Pac in the film, can be heard saying, "I didn’t do nothing. I’m charged with being in concert with some guys. But where they at? Why me? Cause I’m 2Pac? No I’m not angry at them, I’m angry at the system. I don’t want nobody else to go to jail." You can see the original interview 'Pac gave below.
Shakur's media presence and ability to deliver quotes effortlessly remains unparalleled and seeing Shipp Jr. reenact the icon is a testament to the rapper's magnetism when the camera's were rolling. In an interview with XXL from March, the actor said of the part, "Why I took on this role is to give people a side of him that they never had. To really get a great understanding of him and his life, and why things ended up the way they did. We don’t really know the inside, the ins and outs. You can just paint your own picture and have your own perception of why he would act like that. Some people would think that he was just crazy and that wasn’t the case."
