Wale Donates $5,000 to Grambling State University

Wale is lending a helping hand to some frustrated students. The rapper donated $5,000 to Louisiana’s Grambling State University after learning the football team refused to practice and forfeited the Jackson State University football game because their athletic gear was inadequate and their head coach, Doug Williams, was fired.

During GSU’s Nov. 7 Homecoming concert, Wale announced that he would help the school get better uniforms and equipment. He made good on his promise, according to Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue.

"I heard about the Wale pledge after the homecoming concert, and I heard that our students went wild when they heard that such a popular rapper was willing to help our university," he said. "We’re grateful to Wale that he made such a wonderful pledge and we’re excited that he made good on his pledge with a $5,000 donation. It will be put to good use."

Meanwhile, it looks like Wale is expanding his portfolio outside of music.

The Grammy-nominated rhymer has signed with talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) in all areas, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Signing with WME could mean a myriad of things. Most likely, Wale will be pursuing acting opportunities in film and television. Acting runs in the family -- Wale is the cousin of actor Gbenga Akinnagbe, best known as Chris Partlow on HBO's 'The Wire.' The DMV rhymer could also be seeking branding opportunities in the consumer market.

Last June, Wale released his third album, 'The Gifted,' which boasts the hit single, 'Bad (Remix)' featuring Rihanna.
