After a six-year hiatus, VH1’s Hip Hop Honors is coming back and this time they are honoring the women in rap.

According to the VH1, the network plans to air the event live from New York on July 11. No honorees have been announced as of yet (don’t be fooled by Missy Elliott photo above), however, VH1 promises to salute the female “trailblazers and trendsetters” in the male-dominated field. The show is being executive produced by Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere of Flavor Unit.

It's a safe bet that Monica Lynch from Tommy Boy Records and music industry vet Sylvia Rhone will be on the top of the honorees list for this year's event -- but this is a guesstimate on our part.

Among the past honorees include Run-DMC, 2Pac, Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte, Ice Cube, Rakim, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Def Jam Recordings, Timbaland and many more.

VH1 started Hip Hop Honors back in 2004 to celebrate the pioneering artists in rap. The show ceased production in 2010.
