Usher and Tameka Foster’s custody battle reached its climax today, and the verdict likely shocked them both. Usher was awarded primary custody of their two sons, Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviyd, 3.

TMZ reports that the judge sided with the ‘Scream’ singer in the long and tumultuous case, in which both Usher and Foster tried to strip one another of custody of the boys. Usher accused Foster of being inattentive while Foster alleged that Usher was an absentee dad and used drugs in front of their sons. The singer even broke down in tears on the stand following allegations that he was a bad father.

The hearings went on as scheduled despite Usher and his team requested they be postponed following the death of Foster’s son (and Usher’s former stepson) Kile Glover, 11.

It appeared that the acrimonious former couple might have made progress toward an amicable settlement following Glover’s tragic jet skiing accident, especially after Usher chartered a plane for his ex to see the boy, but shortly after Glover’s passing, the gloves came off again. The settlement would have awarded majority custody to Foster, so we bet she’s now regretting that it didn’t come to fruition.
